Job Summary

Pittsburgh, PA |  Squirrel Hill

*Nanny/Household Manager Role*

Start Date: ASAP-ish, but the right person matters more than the date

Hours (35 total guaranteed):

• Childcare: 15-20 hours , approximately 2:30 - 5:30 pm
• House management: 20-25 hours/week, flexible hours
• On weeks when children are off of school, higher priority given to childcare hours of 40-50 hours a week (approx 6-10 weeks a year)

Hourly Rate: $28-35/hr DOE

Children: 6 & 2-year-old

Paid Vacation:

• 1 week family choice
• 1 week nanny choice
• 3 sick or personal days
• All Major holidays

WHO/WHAT: Do you like the kind of day where you can point to actual evidence that you were productive? The laundry is folded. The floors are clean. The dishwasher is empty. The kids have been picked up, fed, and taken somewhere fun. Maybe everyone even made it home with both shoes. This Squirrel Hill family is looking for someone who loves both sides of the job: bringing some order to everyday household chaos and making afternoons fun for two great kids.

Their six-year-old is in school, their two-year-old is heading to daycare, and most afternoons you'll shift into nanny mode around 2:30. You'll handle school and daycare pickups, then head to the library, find a playground, explore a museum, get outside, or simply come home and settle into the afternoon. These parents are happy for their kids to get out into Pittsburgh and actually do things, so someone who enjoys dreaming up a little adventure will have plenty of freedom here.

Before pickup, though? There is plenty to keep you busy. This is a real house with real children living in it. Laundry accumulates. Floors acquire crumbs at an impressive rate. Bathrooms need cleaning. Things get left on counters. Sheets need changing. And every once in a while, somebody needs to open the refrigerator, acknowledge what's happening in there, and do something about it. You'll help with family laundry, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, bathrooms and showers, changing sheets, wiping surfaces, kitchen and household tidying, sweeping porches and steps, and other everyday upkeep. There may be an occasional window or household project that could use attention too. The goal isn't perfection—it’s having someone who can walk into a busy home, see what needs attention, and steadily keep things moving in the right direction. And that's really the sweet spot of this role: household manager in the first half of the day, nanny in the second.

Some weeks you'll spend more time catching up on laundry and tackling the house. Other weeks—especially when school is closed and Dad is working—you may trade the mop for a museum membership and spend more of your hours with the kids. During those heavier childcare weeks, the household responsibilities simply take a back seat. No one expects you to somehow clean three bathrooms while simultaneously taking two children to the zoo.

Dad's work schedule is unusual but planned well in advance. He generally works in heavier two-week stretches, and is home significantly more during other parts of the year. Mom works outside of the home. The family often knows their schedule months ahead—sometimes as much as eight months in advance—and expects to provide at least a month's notice whenever possible. The number of childcare hours may shift, but you shouldn't be waking up on Monday wondering what your week looks like. And if you're someone who occasionally wants more hours, there may be an opportunity for that too. About 6-10 weeks a year, when Dad is working and the kids are off school, the family could use additional childcare—potentially bringing the week closer to 40 or even 50 hours. Those longer weeks could be supplemented with the family leaning on grandparents, however, they’d really appreciate someone who can flex their hours on these busier weeks.

THE IDEAL HOUSE MANAGER IS…A SELF-STARTER WITH REALLY GOOD RADAR. You walk into a room and naturally notice what needs attention. The laundry is ready to switch. The bathroom could use a wipe-down. The six-year-old needs picked up in twenty minutes. The library books probably shouldn't live in the backseat forever. You don't need someone to turn every one of those things into a checklist before you get moving. You're also not intimidated by a house that sometimes gets a little…lived in. In fact, you might be the rare person who gets genuine satisfaction from walking into some chaos and leaving things noticeably better than you found them.

You're resourceful, too. If you're not sure how something works, you'll take a minute to troubleshoot or look it up before assuming someone else needs to solve it. If something breaks, spills, gets damaged, or simply isn't working right, you'll mention it rather than quietly hoping it disappears into the household abyss. Communication matters here.

Most importantly, you're someone who can own your role. You don't need to be micromanaged. You can move from laundry to bathrooms to school pickup to a playground without someone narrating your day from the sidelines. You're flexible, dependable, playful with kids, and happy doing the behind-the-scenes work that makes a family's week run more smoothly. If you're the person who can genuinely appreciate the satisfaction of a freshly mopped floor AND an afternoon adventure with two kids, this might be exactly your kind of job.

Requirements and Benefits
